GREETING

The 32nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of
Cataract and Refractive Surgery
Chair Chikako SUTO
Department of Ophthalmology,
Tokyo Women's Medical University Medical Center East

It is a great honor for me to have been appointed as the Chair of the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JSCRS), with its long-established history, and I would like to express my profound gratitude to the Board and members of the Society.

This is the sixth Annual Meeting of the JSCRS to be held since the Society became an incorporated association. Each year, the JSCRS board has taken the lead in putting together an appealing program with a high level of continuity. This year, the program includes symposia on the latest topics in cataract and refractive surgery, which are the main focus of the JSCRS, as well as general papers, which constitute the core of the meeting and provide a venue for research presentations and discussion. In addition JSCRS Practice sessions that range from reviewing the basic knowledge essential to everyday clinical practice to stepping up the quality of care will be held. As the implementation of team medicine is important for improving quality, we are also offering programs for orthoptists and nurses. Members who are intrigued about serving as mentors by teaching cataract or refractive surgery are being invited to volunteer their expertise for select instruction courses.

In collaboration with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), we are also planning the annual ASCRSEESCRSEJSCRS Joint Symposium with prominent speakers. This international atmosphere, will provide participants with the most up-to-date and global information on current topics.

The Special Lecture, the main event of the Annual Meeting, will be given by Associate Professor Kazuno Negishi of Keio University on the theme of "Quality of Vision and quality of life in cataract and refractive surgery". I am looking forward to hearing about the academic fruits of her learning, as these are the matters to which the JSCRS should aspire.

I am deeply grateful for the valued support and cooperation of JSCRS members and many others in holding this meeting. It is my hope that from small beginnings, the meeting will send up green shoots and grow tall until it flowers into a radiant future, and contribute to the development of cataract and refractive surgery through the participation of as many people as possible. I and the other organizers are all looking forward to meeting you there.
