The 33rd Annual Meeting of
the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery
Chair: Kotaro Oki
Oki Eye Surgery Center

I would like to welcome you all to the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JSCRS).
Although we have made advances in our pursuit of reliable ways to improve post-surgical QOL for cataract and refractive surgery patients, there are still issues that need to be resolved. Hence, this annual meeting is an important opportunity for participants to exchange information and opinions about it. I hope everyone will participate actively in discussion at each of the sessions.

The special lecture will be delivered by Kazunori Miyata (Miyata Eye Hospital) on the topic of “Patient-Based Medicine.” Dr. Miyata is not only a scientist who has collected and analyzed a massive amount of clinical data, but also a physician with extensive experience interacting with patients from different regions of Japan. We are looking forward to hearing a truly wonderful talk.

In the field of surgical ophthalmology, it is essential for the development of surgical instruments and surgical techniques to go hand in hand in a balanced manner. JSCRS aspires to the have the highest degree of freedom at the medical device exhibitions. Thus, I hope that the corporate representatives exhibiting at the Exhibition Square will dress casually in “cool biz” attire as they join us to make the exhibition a great success.

The Open Public Lecture is an important public service by JSCRS. This year, we are currently planning a lecture on “understanding and supporting visually impaired sports.” With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics quickly approaching, we hope to see many people at this lecture.

JSCRS exists for the benefit of all participants. We look forward to an annual meeting where attendees have the opportunity to learn many things and deepen relationships with their friends.
